Shantaa Koh Kood is an understated yet luxurious property on the idyllic island of Koh Kood. The name, which means tranquillity in Hindi, could not be more appropriate.

Set amongst a large coastal coconut grove, the resorts superb 1 and 2 bedroom bungalows feature king size beds, a/c (in the evenings only fans during the day), music systems and stunningly designed outdoor bathrooms. There are no televisions in the rooms this is a place to get away from the box, not into it.

The property has an excellent beach bar which also provides towels and kayaks to guests. There is no swimming pool, but with a perfect beach location like this you dont need one. The main restaurant is open on all sides and enjoys great sea views in a relaxed setting. Massage is also offered in some of the thatched huts at the waters edge a perfect way to finish a fine day of relaxation.

Shantaa is a family-owned resort and you can sense the personal touches throughout. The staff are not classically trained and instead bring an air of genuine island hospitality and warmth to their work. The resort is specifically designed to have only a few villas to limit the number of guests at any one time and is all the better for it.

Shantaa Resort is one of our favourite places in Thailand to escape the hustle and bustle and really unwind.

Superior - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
