A fantastic two week odyssey through northern Thailand and Laos. Travel by train, boat and vehicle through spectacular scenery, remote villages and exceptionally welcoming people.

DAYS 1 & 2

Arrive in Bangkok and transfer to the Ariyasom Villa, one of Bangkok's best boutique hotels. Following day and a half at leisure to explore Bangkok (guided excursions can be included at your request).

DAY 3

Your guide will leave you on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. The train departs in the early evening and arrive early morning into Bangkok. You will have a sleeping berth in an air conditioned carriage.

DAYS 4 & 5

Arrive early morning in Chiang Mai. You will be met at the station by your local guide and transferred to the the U Hotel, one of the city's best small properties. Two full days at leisure to explore Chinag Mai's many attractions.

DAYS 6 & 7

Drive to the Lanjia Lodge on the Thailand and Laos border. Two nights in this responsibly run lodge to explore the rural tribal communities and the lifestyle of the ethnic minorities of the region. The scenery around this area contrasts greatly to what has come before it on the trip.

DAYS 8, 9 & 10

Drive twenty minutes from the lodge to the border crossing. Cross the Mekong River at Chiang Khong/Huay Xai and enter Laos. You will be met by your local guide and private vehicle. Drive to Muang La, stopping in Luang Nam Tha for lunch. This is a long drive (approximately 7 hours) but the views and stops are breathtaking. The journey is followed by three nights at the delightful Munag La Resort to relax and enjoy their great range of excursions and activities. Again, the scenery in this region is spectacular.

DAY 11

Drive from Muang La to Muang Khoua (approximately 1 hour), meet your private boat and begin cruise down the Nam Ou River. Six hour cruise downstream to Nong Khiaw. This is one of the great river journeys in Laos and you will see very few other tourists along the way. The boats stops along the way for swimming and visiting villages. Overnight at Nong Khiaw Riverside.

DAYS 12 & 13

Continue your journey downstream to Luang Prabang. After about four hours of cruising through more spectacular mountain scenery the Nam Ou will meet the Mekong River. You can visit the Pak Ou caves here if you choose. One hour cruise down the Mekong to Luang Prabang - one of Asia's most romantic and beautifully preserved cities. Three nights in the Villa Maly, on of the most luxurious and charming properties in the town.

DAY 15

Fly home from Luang Prabang or continue your journey to other parts Laos, Vietnam or Cambodia. Contact us for ideas and advice.
