Elephant rides have become a popular part of visits to Thailand. Many of the working elephants in Thailand were left without a purpose when logging was banned to protect the forests. Trekking has proved a good way to employ these incredible animals who cannot be returned to the wild.
Treks by elephant range from short trips through forest to 3 to 5 day treks in Northern Thailand. Some of the longer treks include travel by bamboo rafts, walking and cycling.
