Info : Kingfisher Lodge
The Kingfisher Eco Lodge is a great little retreat in Champasak Province, southern Laos. Simple yet comfortable, the lodge promotes tourism in this region as well as community involvement in the running of the property.
The area around the lodge is one of the most beautiful in the country and great for those that love the outdoors. The lodge is situated close to the Xe Pian Natural Protected Area, a haven for flora and fauna.
Accommodation is split into two different categories; Comfort Bungalows and Eco Rooms. There are a total of six stilted Comfort Bungalows, all with double bed, en-suite bathroom, glass front wall and private veranda for admiring the view. These rooms also come with solar powered hot water, solar powered lights and ceiling fans. The Eco Rooms are cheaper and located in bungalows overlooking the wetlands, constructed from wood and bamboo. The Eco Rooms have shared bathrooms and toilets. The lodge's restaurant and bar is built in a two-storey structure with great views and serves a variety of Lao and western food.
The lodge offers a great range of excursions and activities, mainly based on exploring the surrounding wetlands and wildlife sanctuaries. There are a number of hikes, walks and cycle rides for all abilities and fitness levels. Elephant safaris and riding courses have recently been added to the list too.
The Kingfisher Eco Lodge is run on sustainable and responsible tourism principles and has a number of impressive initiatives, such as donating 5% of the costs of activities towards a fund supporting a local school.
The lodge is a great place to explore some of the lesser visited areas of Laos and would appeal to those who love wildlife & nature and anyone who likes getting off the beaten track. A great addition to your holiday to Laos.
Rating
Eco/Outdoors/Homestay - This category covers gorgeous eco lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps, very basic homestays and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level – but a guest staying at any place in this categorisation must read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what they are letting themselves in for!
