Days 1 -3

Arrive Luang Prabang. Be met by your guide and transfer to your hotel. Three nights at the exceptional Villa Maly hotel. Guided tours of Luang Prabang and time at leisure to explore this remarkable and romantic city at leisure.

DAYS 4 & 5 - PLAIN OF JARS

Drive by private vehicle along the windy mountain roads to Phonsovan and the mysterious Plain Of Jars. An afternoon and full day to explore the sites of the jars and the other attractions in the area including the former capital and many war sites. Visit the MAG de-mining project in town to learn more about the USA's 'secret war' and the ongoing effects.

DAYS 6 & 7 - SAM NEUA

Continue by road to Sam Neua - a remote mountain town and capital of the province. The town is one of the centres of the communist party in Laos and has a rich history. The drive is long but passes along some of the most spectacular roads in the country, often with panoramic views of ridge after ridge along the mountains. Use the town as a base for exploring the caves at Vieng Xai, where the Pathet Lao lived and based themselves for almost a decade during the Secret War with the Americans.

DAYS 8 & 9 - MAI CHAU

Drive from Sam Neua to the land border with Vietnam. Your Vietnamese guide will be waiting for you here and will assist with the arrangements. You will be struck at once by the difference between the two countries, and have a far better view and perspective than if if you had merely flown in. It's about a further four hours drive to the town of Mai Chau and the excellent Mai Chau Lodge. The following day is free to explore and enjoy the many excursions and activities offered by the lodge.

DAYS 9, 10 & 11 - HANOI

Drive from Mai Chau to Hanoi (approximately four hours drive). Arrive and check into the Quoc Hoa hotel in the centre of the old quarter of town. Three nights to absorb the sites and sounds of this magical Asian city in all it's glory. A variety of guided excursions will be mixed with plenty of free time to explore the city on foot at your own pace.

DAY 12

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Please note, this itinerary can be extended to include a beach stay in Vietnam or longer exploration of Vietnam. Contact us to discuss the options in greater detail.
