North & East Coast of Bali
The North and East Coasts of Bali offer a complete contrast to the hustle and bustle of the South Coast. The predominantly black-sand beaches are generally peaceful and with the dramatic backdrop of volcanoes rising suddenly and sharply, they are a great place to relax and unwind.
The North Coast
Lovina, the most famous of the north coast resorts, is - a few private villas aside - a backpacker town. There is a good selection of good value places to eat and dolphin watching can be arranged from here in season. We would generally suggest staying in nearby Pemuteran. This small town has a great selection of hotels, including Matahari Beach Resort and Puri Ganesha Villas, and is conveniently located to enjoy the famous diving and snorkelling spot of Menjangan Island. A little further west is the wonderfully unique Menjangan Resort which is built in Bali Barat national park and is host to some idyllic lagoons with some of the only white-sand beaches on the north coast.

Ahmed
The laid back east coast, in the shadow of Mount Agung, is centred on the sleepy town of Amed. A succession of small and idyllic black-sand beaches, interspersed with small fishing villages, creates a peaceful and laid back atmosphere. The area is a renowned snorkelling and diving location, with some fantastic reefs off the coast and the famous Liberty Wreck at nearby Tulamben. Accommodation is relatively low key, with Villa Markisa a great option particularly suited to families. The secluded Amankila on the South East coast is a dramatic and luxurious alternative.
