High in the volcanic mountains, overlooking the northern coastline below, Munduk Moding Plantation is a great place to unwind in peaceful isolation or for the more adventurous travellers a great base from which to do some light trekking and cycling. The hotel itself is simple with the location and scenery doing the talking, while the rooms offer surprising comfort and modern amenities, along with the breath taking views.

The hotel has 6 rooms split between 4 villas and 2 suites. The villas are our recommended category offering privacy on the side of the mountain and boasting stunning views over the hills and coastline below. The villas are spacious with a king size bed, a sitting area and glass panel doors leading to the small patio at the front. The bathrooms are modern with both indoor and outdoor showers and a large terrazzo bath-tub.

The beautiful infinity pool and simple restaurant provide a great base to unwind and take in the peace and quiet of the fantastic location. Further afield there are some fantastic light walks, including to the stunning crater lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan. You can also explore local villages, coffee and sugar plantations and a number of local temples including the Pura Ulun Danu on the shores of Lake Bratan.

For the more active there are some more extreme activities on offer; including some spectacular mountain treks and some strenuous but incredibly rewarding cycle rides up and down the steep mountainous roads.

Munduk Moding Plantation is a great way to see a different and unique side of Bali and to experience the stunning settings that only Volcanic scenery can provide. It is great for families and couples and those looking to relax or be a little more adventurous.

Superior - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
