This superb two week private tour covers the best of this mysterious mountain country - with a relaxed couple of days in Thailand at either end.

Starting in Chaing Rai, Thailand, you will cruise on up the Luang Say river into Laos. From here, visit cities such as Luang Prabang and Vientienne, with a visit to the enigmatic Plain of Jars along the way.

The hotels are all of an excellent standard and all the tours and guiding is private and flexible.

DAY 1

Fly from the UK to Chiang Rai.

DAYS 2 & 3 - CHIANG RAI

You will be met at Chiang Rai Airport and driven to your hotel. You have two nights in Chiang Rai, giving you the opportunity to explore the city.

DAYS 4 & 5 - LUANG SAY

3 day/2 night Luang Say Cruise with Kamu Lodge (inc meals and non alcoholic drinks)

A relaxing 3 day journey along one of the most seductive and important rivers in the world. Spectacular scenery and fascinating culture an amazing start to your journey into Laos.

Overnight at Luang Say Lodge and Kamu Lodge.

DAYS 6, 7 & 8 - LUANG PRABANG

Arrive Luang Prabang.

3 nights accommodation at Le Bel Air Boutique Resort, including breakfast and one full day guided tour.

Surrounded by thickly forested mountains at the confluence of the Khan and Mekong Rivers, Luang Prabang is a perfect place to stroll down ancient lanes and absorb the magic and timelessness of this wonderful and relatively undiscovered part of the world.

DAY 9

Depart early for the enigmatic 'The Plain of Jars'. The journey takes approximately 6 hours, passing through remote areas of spectacular mountainous scenery with many small ethnic minority villages along the way.

Upon arrival, check into your hotel before heading out to explore the township with your local guide. Lunch is included and accommodation is at Auberge Hotel.

DAYS 10 & 11

This morning depart with your guide to visit the local market in town, where ethnic minorities (including Thai Dam, Hmong, and Phuan) from the surrounding villages usually gather. Next explore the Plain of Jars. There are over 300 stone jars in the region whose origin and use lies shrouded in mystery. Return to your hotel to check-out by 12 noon and after lunch, there may be some time for more exploration of the township or the surrounding region. Transfer to the airport for the flight to Vientiane.

With a population of around 500,000 people Vientiane is the most laid-back city in Asia. A local guide will meet you and a full days site seeing is included.

DAYS 12, 13, 14 & 15

Your flight departs Vientiane very early today for Pakse.

Southern Laos is known for its highlands and plateaus, waterfalls, temple ruins, Mekong Islands, relaxed ways and its sense of timelessness.

Highlights for visitors to this area include the Bolaven Plateau with its pleasant climate, tea and coffee plantations, waterfalls and ethnic minority villages. Wat Phu Champassak a Khmer temple ruin and UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands) area of the Mekong River with many islands, rapids and waterfalls small traditional villages, and endangered freshwater dolphins.

Your 4 night stay in Southern Laos is split between Champa Residence in Pakse, Tad Lo Lodge on the banks of the Tad Lo Waterfall and La Folie Lodge on Don Daeng Island. The split of the 4 nights will depend on the time of the departure flight you have to Bangkok.

DAY 16

Transfer to Pakse or Ubon Ratchathani airport for your onward flight to Bangkok. From here you can either connect on to a flight straight home or add a couple of nights stay in the city or even connect on to a Thai beach resort. Just let us know which you would prefer.
