Chez Claude,
Sihanoukville
Cambodia, Phnom Penh and The South
Info : Chez Claude
Chez Claude is a small bungalow resort set on a hill in between Sokha beach and Independence beach. The panoramic bar/restaurant at the top of the resort offers some of the best views in Sihanoukville along with some very good seafood.
The resort offers 6 simple but comfortable wooden bungalows and 2 stone towers each based on a national architectural style. They all have en-suite shower rooms with hot water and a large balcony offering views out to sea. The towers are currently the only rooms to offer a/c.
The resort is 5-10 minutes walk from the relatively quiet white sand Sokha and Independence beaches, whilst its a short tuk-tuk journey to the busier Ochheuteal and Serendipity beaches. Unfortunately the planned swimming pool has yet to be built. They offer boat trips to nearby islands and diving tours of up to 5 days for experienced divers.
The resort has a French owner who has a long history in the area and pays a great deal of attention to the food with a French and Khmer fusion menu. They use locally caught seafood and have an allotment for their vegetables. This is a good value option for people looking for a quiet and peaceful base with good quality food.

Rating
Value - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin – provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels, but in areas where there is little choice or if it is a very good place, it may be what would generally be described in Asia as a 'guesthouse'.
