This itinerary offers the more adventurous traveller a fantastic opportunity to explore the hidden gem that is Cambodias North East.

The tour starts with a couple of days spent touring the spectacular Angkor temples. From there you get completely off the tourist trail, visiting pre-Angkorian ruins in Kampong Thom and Kampong Cham, taking a boat trip to spot Irrawaddy dolphins in the Mekong River, before spending a few nights in the remote market town of Ban Lung in the forests of Ratanakiri.

The tour finishes with two nights in Phnom Penh.

For those who have already visited Angkor, this itinerary can be reduced by removing Angkor. Anyone with a few extra days to spare can extend the tour to include a stay on the south coast or a trip down the Mekong River and into Vietnam.

Day-to-Day Itinerary : Cambodia's North East

DAYS 1, 2, 3 & 4 SIEM REAP

3 nights accommodation at The F.C.C Angkor and 2 days with a guide and driver exploring the majestic temples of Angkor. Youll visit the most famous temple Angkor Wat as well as Angkor Thom, Bayon and also Ta Prohm. Ta Phrom is overgrown with the roots and limbs of Banyan Trees and famously featured in the Tombraider films!


DAYS 4 & 5 KAMPONG THOM

Departing Siem Reap, you will be driven to Kampong Thom, where upon arrival you will head to Sambor Prei Kuk - some of the most striking and remarkable examples of 7th century Pre-Angkorien art(615-650AC). The afternoon is spent exploring the Buddhist Wat Kapong Thom and the local market. Accommodation is in the comfortable Sambor Village Hotel.


DAYS 5 & 6 STUNG TRENG

Leaving Kampong Thom in the morning you will drive along the banks of the Mekong River to Stung Treng, stopping in Kratie for lunch. You will have time in the afternoon to explore this border town and its interesting markets. Accommodation is in the simple but clean Gold River Hotel.


DAYS 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 BAN LUNG

After a morning boat trip to see the villages along the Mekong River, you will head east into the ethnically diverse and remote border province of Ratanakiri, and its capital Ban Lung. You will have the opportunity to swim in the beautifully refreshing Yaklaom Crater Lake and a number of local waterfalls, while spending two days exploring the vast expanse of forest surrounding the town and visiting a variety of remote ethnic villages. The four nights accommodation will be in the beautifully restored and atmospheric former Governors house, Terres Rouge.


DAYS 10 & 11 KRATIE

A morning transfer to the market town of Kratie on the banks of the Mekong River. After lunch in a local restaurant you will take a boat trip on the Mekong to see the extremely rare Irrawaddy dolphins. Accommodation is in the simple but clean Oudum Sambath Hotel.


DAYS 11, 12 & 13 PHNOM PENH

Following a morning transfer you will have two nights to experience the fascinating recent history of Cambodia and its capital Phnom Penh. During a full day tour you will visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, Emerald Buddha and the National Museum. You'll also have the option of visiting Toul Sleng, formerly used by the Pol Pot regime as a detention centre, and the killing fields. This is a moving example of the difficulties faced by Cambodians between 1975 & 1979. Accommodation is at the Pavilion hotel.
