Burma, Ngapali Beach

Although Burma is not yet a "beach destination", that doesn't mean that it does not have some fantastic beach experiences to offer which can easily be added to any Burma itinerary. 

Burma's finest beach is Ngapali beach, on the country's west coast in Rakhine State. The sand is white and powdery and the stretch of beach is beautiful, lined with coconut palms and the water is generally calm and good for swimming. There are plenty of quality seafood restaurants and cocktail bars set back from the beach although Ngapali is still quiet and relatively undeveloped, allowing for a chance for true relaxation after extensive touring in Burma. Just a 35 minute flight to Thandwe airport from Yangon, Ngapali is one of Burma's best options for a beach extension. 

Other options include Ngwe Saung, directly west of Yangon and south of Ngapali, a 25 minute flight to Pathein airport from Yangon. The quality of the beach and sand is comparable to Ngapali and Ngwe Saung is popular with day trippers and weekend Changtha beach is another beach popular with day trippers from Yangon as it is just a 5 hour drive from the capital. Also white and sandy Chaungtha also has a nearby fishing village to explore.
